PatternQuiz is modeled, with his blessing, on Dan Cederholm's SimpleQuiz. In simple terms, a pattern is a commonly used construct, concept or strategy. For example, a blog or a wiki is a type of website pattern. A top level navigation bar, like the "tabs" on this page, is a kind of page architecture pattern. The important thing about patterns is that they already exist, and are extensively used. Often we just don't have a common name for them, or a really deep understanding of when they should be used, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and so on. The aim of the PatternQuiz is to collectively draw on the wealth of experience and knowledge of web developers to uncover and catalogue these patterns.
PatternQuiz I - Site level patterns
The first installment of the PatternQuiz covers site level patterns. There's a detailed example of the "blog" pattern, but most importantly, get along and submit your own site patterns. In time, we'll formalize these at the soon to be up and running WebPattern wiki
